2. The Highlands, Scotland

If there’s a part of Europe more renowned for its natural beauty than any other, it might just be the Scottish Highlands. Here you’ll find the tallest mountain on the British Isles, Ben Nevis, hundreds of islands to explore such as the Isle of Skye and one of the world’s best known walking routes, the West Highland Way. Start off from just outside Glasgow and journey gradually northwards until the end at Fort William, with the gorgeous mountain range of Glencoe not too far away.
